JOINERY
Dovetail joints
The dovetail is one of the strongest and most decorative wood joints. When the tail is fitted into the pin slot a locking action takes place. Once glued, it becomes a mechanical and chemical joint that resists stress for generations. We use dovetails in drawers and sometimes in cases.

Mortise and Tenon
The pinned mortise and tenon is also a mechanical and chemical joint. Only the decay of the wood or the forcing out of the pins will destroy this joint. The mortise and tenon is used in the construction of doors, face frames, and some table leg assemblies.

Bolt and Tenon
Similar to the mortise and tenon detail, this mortise uses a bolt for added reinforcement and durability. This joint is featured on our pencil post bed, allowing the bed to be assembled and dis-assembled with no sacrifice in strength and no ugly hardware showing on the posts.

Corner Block
The corner block joinery offers the best in strength and practicality as tables can be dis-assembled for shipping or storage with no sacrifice in strength when joined.

After the piece is thoroughly sanded, a stain is either sprayed or wiped on. If the piece is traditional in design, distressing, or fly specking can be added using anything from a chain with bolts to a paintbrush dipped in black paint to give the piece an aged look.
A sanding sealer is then applied to prepare the piece for its final finish steps. A final sanding is done prior to the application of the top coat. Lacquer is most often used as the last step, giving the piece its finished appearance. Whether flat or buffed to a high gloss, lacquer provides the beauty, water resistance and durability desirable today
